They Were Amazed When They Saw the Queen.
2021 (ongoing).
Unexpected circumstances resulted in Bartram finding herself living back in the town that she grew up in, in her family home, for what would be the longest time in the last few years. This homecoming began a period of reflection over how the artist’s childhood has shaped her identity into who she is today. Incorporating material she has been unintentionally making since she was three years old, Bartram brings pieces of her childhood imagination to life as a way to reconnect with her inner child. They Were Amazed When They Saw the Queen challenges the way we approach creativity with caution as adults and instead celebrates the freedom, playfulness and unwavering joy of the childhood imagination.
